Captain Steve Djunaedi is a native of New York, New York, and a 1997 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Upon graduation, he reported to NAS Pensacola, Florida, to begin flight training and was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in April 1999. He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School with an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
His operational assignments include the Checkmates of Fighter Squadron (VF) 211, Training Officer for Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 213 Blacklions, and a Department Head with VFA-211 Checkmates. He served as the Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of VFA-154 Black Knights, and as the Air Boss on the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). He has deployed and participated in Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
Shore and staff tours include duty as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) and Forward Air Controller (Airborne) Instructor at the Strike Fighter Weapons School, Atlantic; NATO’s Headquarters Supreme Allied Command Transformation as a Joint Staff Liaison Officer for the Joint Force Trainer Division (J7); Tactical Training Group, Atlantic as the Integrated Air & Missile Defense (IAMD) Module Head and AMDC Mentor; and as the Executive Officer for Naval Air Station Oceana.
Captain Djunaedi was awarded the 2002 Association of Naval Aviation’s RADM A.C. Read Navigator of the Year Award and the 2010 Naval Air Forces Leadership Award. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two), Air Medal (two Strike/Flight awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four), Navy Achievement Medal, and various campaign and unit citations. He has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours and 800 carrier-arrested landings in the F-14A/B/D, F/A-18B/D/F, and EA-18G aircraft.
