A native of Detroit, Michigan, Commander Gamicchia graduated from North Carolina State University in May 2000 where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Electrical Engineering and was commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program.
Sea duty tours include his initial assignment to USS FORD (FFG 54), where he served as Communications Officer from 2001 - 2002. He next served as Reactor Laboratories Division Officer in USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) from 2003 - 2005. He later served as the Reactor Electrical Assistant in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) from 2009 to 2010. He subsequently served as Combat Systems Officer in USS CHOSIN (CG65) from 2011 to 2012. He also served as Executive Officer in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89) from 2016 to 2018. His most recent sea tour was Assistant Reactor Officer in USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) from 2018 to 2020.
Ashore, Commander Gamicchia served as an Officer Instructor at NROTC Cornell University. During that tour he completed a M.E. in Systems Engineering from Cornell University and a M.E. in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. He was later stationed at Naval Personnel Command in Millington, TN where he serves at the Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer Community Manager from 2012 to 2014. He most recently served as the Officer in Charge of the CNAF Force Nuclear Propulsion Maintenance Training Group Detachment in Yokosuka, Japan from 2014 to 2016.
He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal as well as numerous campaign and unit awards.
