Captain Daniel A. Patrick

Captain Dan Patrick, a native of Taylor, Michigan, enlisted in the Navy in 1994, was accepted into the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Michigan in 1995, and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences. Captain Patrick also has a Master of Engineering Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
 
Captain Patrick’s assignments afloat include a Division Officer tour on USS TENNESSEE (SSBN 734) (GOLD) where he conducted four Strategic Deterrent Patrols, Department Head tour on USS MONTPELIER (SSN 765) as Navigator/Operations Officer where he conducted two deployments to the CENTCOM/AFRICOM AORs, Executive Officer tour on USS HELENA (SSN 725) where he conducted a CENTCOM AOR deployment, and Commanding Officer on the USS OREGON (SSN 793).  He also graduated from the Dutch Perisher course in 2012 as the 5th American to graduate from the Dutch Submarine Command Course.
 
Captain Patrick’s ashore assignments include Naval Reactors in Washington D.C. where he worked in the Special Submarine operations division assigned to the VIRGINIA and SEAWOLF class building and operations programs,  Operations Officer at Commander Submarine Squadron EIGHT and SIX (CSS8 & CSS6) where he supported all Norfolk based submarine operations,  XO for the Atlantic Fleet Tactical Readiness team and then the Director of Submarine Special Operations at Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic,  the NATO Nuclear Strategy and Policy Branch Head for the NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation, and OPNAV Branch Head for Nuclear Matters and Ocean Systems.  
 
He has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
 
Captain Patrick is married to the former Charlotte Lynn Lunsford of Taylor, Michigan.  They reside in Virginia Beach, VA with their two sons Tyler (22) and Zachary (20).

Captain Patrick assumed the duties as Naval Weapons Station Yorktown Commanding Officer on 15 September 2023.
