Command Master Chief Mikendra R. Porter enlisted in the United States Navy October 2003 and reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. Following graduation, she reported to Naval Service Training Command, Great Lakes, IL for Seaman ATD “A” School.
Upon completion of Seaman ATD School, she reported to her first assignment onboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in Mayport, FL. She served as a member of the ship’s Deck Department and deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
In June 2005, she reported to Basic Hospital Corpsman “A” School in Great Lakes, IL. After graduation she received follow on orders to Naval Hospital Pensacola, FL where she served as a General Duty Corpsman. Her subsequent shore duty assignments: Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan; Instructor and Leading Petty Officer at Navy Medicine Training Support Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program; 3d Dental Battalion/U.S. Naval Dental Center, Okinawa, Japan as the Department Leading Chief Petty Officer of Branch Dental Clinics Futenma and Kinser; Navy Medicine and Readiness Training Command, Okinawa, Japan as Senior Enlisted Leader for the Directorate of Branch Clinics and the Directorate of Medical Service in support of Forward Deployed Naval Forces; and Navy Medicine and Readiness Training Command Portsmouth as the Department Leading Chief Petty Officer.
Her operational duty assignment includes: 3d Marine Air Wing, Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton, CA as the Navy Senior Enlisted Leader. She deployed with Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE from September 2016 to June 2017 where she served as the Air Combat Element Navy Senior Enlisted Leader, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Bahrain.
In February 2021, she was selected for the Command Senior Enlisted Leader Program and was subsequently selected for Command Master Chief in February 2023. She currently serves as the Command Master Chief of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown.
Master Chief Porter holds a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare from Southern New Hampshire University, Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from Trident University and Associate of Science in Health Science Technology from Coastline Community College. She is a graduate of the Naval War College Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course.
Command Master Chief Porter qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, and holds a certification as a Master Training Specialist.
Her personal military awards and decorations include: the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
