LTC Waites is a native of Newnan, Georgia and graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1993. He enlisted in 1996 as a Military Intelligence Soldier and was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC to begin his military career. He graduated and commissioned through ROTC at Auburn University, AL in the Green To Gold Program in 2004.

His military schooling includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic NCO Course, DLI (Arabic), Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, the Transportation

Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course, and the Command and General Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages from The Citadel and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance degree from Auburn University.

LTC Waites’ assignments include the 313th MI Battalion (82nd Airborne) where he deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Southern Watch; 307th Forward Support Battalion (82nd Airborne) where he deployed to Iraq (OIF) and Afghanistan (OEF); 1st ID Military Transition Team (Iraq) where he deployed to Iraq in support of the 50th Iraqi Brigade; Commander – 1-505th PIR Forward Support Company (82nd Airborne) where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force; XO - 832nd Trans Battalion (SDDC); SPO - 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade (Korea); United States Army Pacific G-4 Mobility (USARPAC); 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command SPO (XVIII Airborne Corps); 840th Transportation Battalion Commander (SDDC); and recently the 7TB(X) DCO (3ESC).

LTC Waites’ decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), The Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.

LTC Waites is married to the former Melissa Chizmar from Washington, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Abby (28) and CJ (27).
