Captain Robert Littman is a native of Montclair, New Jersey. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Capt. Littman received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in May 2001 and reported to Pensacola, FL for flight training in June 2001. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in November 2003 and subsequently reported to the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 for initial F/A-18 flight training.
Capt. Littman began his operational flying in January 2005 with the “Sunliners” of VFA-81 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While serving as a “Sunliner,” he deployed onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) flying missions during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. CAPT Littman was then selected to attend the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) in Fallon, Nevada from January to March 2008. He subsequently reported to the Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic (SFWSL) from March 2008 to August 2010, where he served as the Advanced Tactics and Training Procedures (ATTP) Subject Matter Expert (SME).
In September 2010 CAPT Littman reported to the “Knighthawks” of VFA-136 as the Training Officer and deployed onboard the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) flying missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. In June 2012, he reported to the “Ragin’ Bulls” of VFA-37 as a Department Head.
While with the “Ragin’ Bulls,” he deployed onboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and flew missions in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM.
Following his Department Head tour, Capt. Littman reported to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he graduated with distinction earning a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2015. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the United States Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, where he served in the Directorate of Operations, Domestic Operations Division, as an Air and Space Planner.
In August 2019, Capt. Littman reported to the “Blue Diamonds” of VFA-146 as the Executive Officer and deployed onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) flying highly contested missions in the South China Sea. In November 2020, he assumed command of the “Blue Diamonds” and once again deployed onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) for operations in the South China Sea and Seventh Fleet Area of Responsibility.
Following his Command tour, in April 2022, Capt. Littman reported to Commander, Naval Air Forces Atlantic and served as the Executive Assistant to the Commander.
Capt. Littman’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various service and campaign awards and ribbons.
Capt. Littman has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours and more than 700 carrier landings. He became executive officer of Naval Air Station Oceana Aug. 9, 2024.
