Lieutenant Peter Whitaker began his Naval career in March 2004, enlisting in the U.S. Navy and completing recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois. In May 2018, he was commissioned as an Ensign through the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program. He earned an Associate Degree in Business from Excelsior College in 2020.
Throughout his enlisted career, LT Whitaker held several key assignments. He served aboard USS Kauffman (FFG-59), where he deployed four times within the 5th and 6th fleet AOR supporting Maritime security operations; Mobile Diving and Expeditionary Combat Salvage Unit TWO (MDSU 2), Supporting Diver and Explosive Ordinance Disposal Special Operations; USS Arlington (LPD 24), where he was a plank owner and promoted to Chief Petty Officer; USS Bataan (LHD 5), where he deployed to the 5th fleet in support of crisis response operations related to the Israel-Hama conflict and in the Bab-el-Manded and was selected for the LDO program.
Following his commissioning, LT Whitaker served in various officer assignments, including a 1st LT/BOSN tour aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Officer in Charge at Assault Craft Unit FOUR (ACU 4), Senior inspector at the Board of Inspection and Survey, and Executive Officer at Naval Support Activity Portsmouth, Virginia. His personal decorations include six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and numerous campaign, unit, and service awards.
LT Whitaker and his wife, both LDOs, are a proud dual-military family. Outside of work, they enjoy an active lifestyle together, spending their time hunting, fishing, e-foiling, and snowboarding.
