CDR Traweek, a native of Lake Charles, LA, enlisted in the Navy in November of 1988. Following completion of “A” school, he completed tours aboard USS La Salle (AGF 3) in Bahrain, USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) in Yokosuka, Japan, Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) San Diego, USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) and USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60), both in Hawaii, and completed numerous “C” schools. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the year 2000.
In August of 2001, CDR Traweek was commissioned through the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) program. He reported to USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) in San Diego as the Electronics Materials Officer (EMO) and earned his Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) designation. His next assignment was in Gaeta, Italy on USS La Salle (AGF 3) as EMO. Upon La Salle’s decommissioning, CDR Traweek cross-decked to USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) as EMO. His first shore assignment as an officer kept him overseas, serving concurrently as Officer in Charge (OIC) of Naval Radio Transmitter Facility (NRTF) Niscemi and as EMO of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS), Sigonella Sicily. He was next assigned as the OIC of Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego, San Clemente Island Detachment. Subsequently, he served as the Deputy Materiel & Logistics Officer (N4A) and Flag Combat Systems Officer on Commander Carrier Strike Group TEN’s staff, previously embarked on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in Norfolk, VA. He was then assigned as the Combat Systems Maintenance Officer (CSMO) onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), which homeport shifted from Norfolk to San Diego. In his next shore assignment, he was billeted as the N64 Department Head and Fleet EMO for Commander SIXTH Fleet (C6F) in Naples, Italy, as well as the Force EMO for Commander Naval Forces Europe/Commander Naval Forces Africa (CNE/CNA). While stationed at C6F, he was temporarily assigned to USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20) to establish the new C5I Officer billet. CDR Traweek most recently served as the Combat Systems Officer (CSO) aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and qualified as an Information Warfare Officer (IWO).
CDR Traweek earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) and was inducted as a member of the International Honor Society of Business. He is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), in addition to various other personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
CDR Traweek assumed the duties of Executive Officer, Naval Station Great Lakes on 24 February 2023.
