Commander Brad Boyd assumed the duties as Executive Officer of Naval Submarine Base New London, in Groton, Connecticut in March 2023.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Commander Boyd graduated from The Ohio State University and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) in 2004.
Following completion of Nuclear Power Training and the Submarine Officer Basic Course, he reported to USS Dallas (SSN 700) in Groton, Connecticut, serving as a division officer from April 2006 to October 2008. Qualifying in Submarines, he completed two Mediterranean and Central Command deployments.
Additionally, Commander Boyd served as the Navigation/Operations Officer onboard USS Bremerton (SSN 698) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, from January 2012 to December 2014, and completed a Western Pacific deployment.
Commander Boyd's ashore assignments include Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee, as a detailer, and Naval Submarine Training Center, Pacific in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as the Engineering Department Director.
Commander Boyd led the Historic Ship Nautilus (SSN 571) as Officer in Charge and the Submarine Force Museum as Director, from January 2018 to April 2021. He oversaw the continued preservation of the world’s first nuclear warship and advanced the submarine and museum’s mission in informing and engaging the public.
Most recently, Commander Boyd served as the Fleet Integration Director (N5) at the Submarine Learning Center in Groton.

In addition to his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering from The Ohio State University, Commander Boyd has earned both the Junior and Senior Level, Master of the Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.
