Fleet Week New York is now in its 37th iteration. The week-long event will include a variety of public military demonstrations. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York — and the surrounding tri-state area — to meet Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services.
“This year’s Fleet Week New York is especially meaningful, as we commemorate our Navy’s 250 years of maritime excellence and unwavering commitment to freedom and global security,” said Rear Adm. Carl Lahti, commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. “Our Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen have been on the front lines of freedom — demonstrating courage, commitment, and readiness — for two-and-a-half-centuries. We once again look forward to this 37-year-old tradition of connecting with the great state of New York and honoring the spirit of service that drives our nation forward.”
The event has been held nearly every year since 1984 and this year’s theme is “Honoring the Past, Defending the Future: 250 Years of Sea Service Excellence," which celebrates the rich history of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard — honoring service members from the past, present, and future who play a crucial role in supporting the fleet while carrying out our Navy’s maritime strategy and strategic objectives.

Fleet Week New York (FWNY) returns to New York City on May 21 – 27, 2025, with two U.S. Navy ships, two Coast Guard cutters, and five U.S. Navy Academy Yard Patrol boats (YPs). Additionally, our Canadian neighbor will join the week-long celebration. Ships from the U.S. and Royal Canadian Navy will participate in the Parade of Ships on Wednesday, May 21.

When is the best time to arrive for a tour?
Visitors are encouraged to show up early and be aware that lines to visit ships may be closed at least an hour prior to end of visiting hours so everyone in line has the opportunity to complete their tour.
How much does it cost to take a ship tour?
Tours of operational military vessels are always free.
How long will any U.S. Navy ship tour last?
We have coordinated a great tour route that gives you a sneak peek at how the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard serve our nation while at sea. A ship tour will take approximately 30 minutes. Allow a little longer if you have questions or plan to buy something from the ship’s merchandise table at the end of your tour. Ships accept different forms of payment so we recommend having both cash as well as a credit card.
How do we get aboard the ships?
Visitors should look for clearly marked entrances. Everyone must go through a security check prior to accessing any ship. The security check is similar to what is present at most airports and consists of a walk through metal detector and/or wand scan.
Is there an age requirement to visit any ships?
There is no age requirement to tour ships during Fleet Week, however, adult visitors over the age of 18 are required to show a valid state or federal issued picture I.D. Tours may not be appropriate for small children or those with certain medical conditions. There are steep ladders (stairways) to climb and uneven surfaces to traverse during a ship tour, and thus, tours may be difficult for parents carrying young children. Touring ships is not advised for individuals with mobility issues.
What should I wear to the ships?
Visitors should plan to wear comfortable clothing (no short skirts). If you are bringing a bag or camera case, it will be searched prior to entering. Remember to bring sunscreen and sunglasses if it is going to be sunny. A ship is an industrial environment. No high heels, open-toed shoes and bags that will be too heavy to carry comfortably.
Are strollers allowed on the ships?
Strollers or baby carriages are permitted on the pier, but are not allowed on the ships.
Are ships handicapped accessible?
Ships are not handicapped accessible; however, pier facilities - including the exhibit, observation, refreshment, and restroom areas - are handicapped accessible.
Are there any physical requirements to visit the ships?
There may be steep ladders (stairs) to climb and narrow passageways to traverse during a ship tour. These tours may not be appropriate for individuals with heart conditions, breathing difficulties, or other medical conditions that will impact an ability to navigate such challenges.
What items are allowed on ships?
Small hand-carried items such as handbags, small cameras or diaper bags are permitted. All personnel will be screened and all bags will be searched before entering the ship. Please note that water bottles of any kind will not be allowed through the security checkpoint.
What items are not allowed on the ships?
The following are not permitted: electronic smoking devices, bottles, water bottles, cans or glass containers of any type; banners, posters or signs of any type; mace, pepper spray, or other defensive sprays or chemicals; knives, firearms, fireworks or any explosive; illegal drugs or paraphernalia; flammable liquids or aerosol spray cans; club weapons; and animals. All electronic devices are subject to examination for functionality. The U.S. Navy, U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Coast Guard reserve the right to prohibit other items not listed above.
I would like to visit one of the U.S. Navy ships, can I take pictures?
Pictures of U.S. Navy ships are allowed on the pier prior to boarding and at a few designated locations on the ship. When you are onboard taking your tour, the tour guide will tell you where and when you can take pictures. Until then, we ask that you keep your camera/cell phone secured in a pocket, purse or backpack. Individuals who violate this policy may be asked to leave. Photo and story sharing is encouraged on all social media platforms. Whenever possible, please use #FleetWeekNYC on photos/videos posted to social media.
Can I get in the aircraft that are on display?
For your safety and the safety of the people who fly our Navy aircraft, we can’t let people in our planes and helicopters. This also applies to other military vehicles and equipment.
Is smoking allowed on the ships?
No. There is no smoking, including electronic smoking devices, aboard any ship or anywhere on the piers.
Is food available during the ship visitation?
No food is available on these ships. Please note that outside water bottles may not be allowed past the security checkpoint.
Can I purchase ship memorabilia during my tour?
Yes, many ships have various memorabilia and Fleet Week New York merchandise will be available for sale – be prepared to have cash in case credit cards are not accepted.
May I use a drone to film/photograph while in New York City?
Operating drones in New York City will be strictly prohibited around vessels participating in Fleet Week New York.
