New Arrival Information

Naval Air Station Oceana lies 16 miles east of the city of Norfolk but within the city limits of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Naval Air Station Oceana consists of 6,000 acres with approximately 10,000 military, 11,000 family members and 1,700 civilian employees.

Checking in:

All reporting personnel must stop at the Quarterdeck, located in Bldg. 230 on Tomcat Blvd. (for directions to NAS Oceana, see below). Here you will have your orders endorsed by the station Junior Officer of the Day (JOOD). The Quarterdeck is manned 24 hours a day and can be reached at (757) 433-2366. After checking in with the JOOD, all military personnel are sent to the Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) located in Bldg 326 on D Ave. PSD is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., emergencies are handled by the duty personnelman who can be reached through the PSD Admin office at (757) 433-3064.

Sponsorship/Ombudsman:

Prior to arriving in the area, contact the Sponsor Coordinator at 757-433-2685 to ensure your sponsor is available upon your arrival and the Ombudsman at 757-438-3331 or 757-438-3106 to assist you in any family related services. If you need further assistance with your arrival, contact the Command Master Chief's office at 757-433-2615.

Directions to NAS Oceana:

Your first approach to the Air Station is from Interstate 64 East or West. From 64, take 264 East to First Colonial Road. Proceed on First Colonial past Virginia Beach Blvd. First Colonial becomes Oceana Blvd. Follow Oceana Blvd for the next 4 miles passing the Oceana Stables. The next right will be Tomcat Blvd., which leads to the main gate.

Arriving by Plane:

If you are reporting to Naval Air Station Oceana and you are to arrive by commercial airline, you must purchase an airline ticket destined for Norfolk International Airport (ORF). The airport is located about 20 miles west of Naval Air Station Oceana. There is a Navy Representative on duty at the Airport Military Information Booth, located in the main lobby of the airport. Information is available to military personnel reporting to the area from 8 a.m. to midnight both weekdays and weekends. The Military Information Booth can be reached by calling (757) 444-3040.

If you do not have a sponsor there to meet you, the airport limousine service will take you to Naval Air Station Oceana Quarterdeck for about $30. If you are checking aboard FRC Oceana, call (757) 433-5933. FRC Oceana will provide you with transportation from the airport to the Air Station.

Decals for your vehicle:

The first stop for anyone coming aboard is the Naval Air Station Oceana Main Gate. If arriving in a privately owned vehicle, it is here that Sailors and civilians not possessing a DOD sticker must obtain a parking pass from base security to come aboard (if driving). The Pass and Decal Office is located in Bldg. 252, directly across from the Navy Exchange and is open from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. To obtain a DOD vehicle decal, you must present proof of ownership (i.e. title, registration or a notarized statement giving you permission to drive the vehicle). In addition, you will need a current insurance policy (valid card, policy, or binder), driver's license and an ID. If your vehicle is registered in Virginia, you will also need a current Virginia State Inspection (the pink receipt issued by the inspection station).

If arriving in a rental vehicle, you may proceed directly to the Main Gate and receive a rental vehicle pass from the sentry. You will be required to present a valid photo identification and the rental contract. The rental vehicle must be a normal passenger vehicle (sedan, coupe, SUV, passenger van, pickup truck, etc.), from a recognized rental company and not pricipally designed to carry cargo. Your vehicle pass will be granted until the expiration date on the rental contract.
