Explosive Safety

Navy explosives safety policy is based on the requirements of DOD 6055.9-STD, "Ammunition and Explosives Safety Standards." This DOD standard establishes uniform safety requirements applicable to ammunition and explosives and to associated and unrelated personnel and property exposed to the potential damaging effects of an accident involving ammunition and explosives during their development, manufacturing, testing, transportation, handling, storage, utilization, maintenance, demilitarization, and disposal.

Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO)

HERO Stickers
Mobile and hand-held transmitters must be labeled with HERO Unsafe and HERO Susceptible Ordnance stickers showing separation distances taken from the activity HERO Survey.

Note: Radiation Hazard (RADHAZ) describes the hazards of electromagnetic radiation to personnel, fuels, and ordnance. The guiding Navy regulation is NAVSEA OP3565 (PKI Certificate Required). These hazards are segregated as follows:
