Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads to Conduct Change of Command Ceremony

Norfolk, Va. –Captain Matthew Olson will relieve Captain Matthew Frauenzimmer as the 22nd Commanding Officer of Naval Support Activity (NSA) Hampton Roads during the change of command ceremony on June 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Sewells Point Golf Course.

Capt. Frauenzimmer has commanded NSA Hampton Roads since July 2021. Vice Adm. Christopher “Scott” Gray, Commander, Navy Installations Command, will serve as the guest speaker at the ceremony.
 
At sea, Capt. Olson served with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 123 as a junior officer, weapons and tactics instructor, and department head. He deployed in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM / IRAQI FREEDOM, and briefly served in Baghdad, Iraq as the air operations officer to Naval Special Warfare Task Group-Arabian Peninsula. Olson also served as the executive officer and commanding officer of VAW 124. After command, he reported to USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) as the “Air Boss”.
 
Ashore, Olson instructed at the E-2 Hawkeye Weapons and Tactics Unit before spending a year studying at the United States Air Force Air Command and Staff College, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Operational Art and Science.  He was then selected to attend the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, ultimately graduating with a Master’s of Philosophy Degree in Military Strategy. During his joint tour, he served in the Joint Staff J6 (Joint Fires Division) as the Combat Identification Section Lead. Capt. Olson was also assigned to the Navy Warfare Development Center as the N7 (Training, Exercises, and Wargaming).
 
NSA Hampton Roads ensures that administrative, personnel, logistical, maintenance, transportation, supply, and fiscal services are furnished so that their tenant commands may operate with maximum emphasis on their primary mission.
It covers a 4,684 acre area in Virginia and North Carolina and serves 59 tenant commands, 45 Flag Officer/General Officers, and 14 Senior Executive Staffs. The command consist of more than 500 military and civilian personnel, 10 housing communities, 1,192 Homes and more than 4,000 residents.
