The USCGC SYCAMORE (WLB 209) is a seagoing buoy tender, the second of her name and the ninth of the Juniper-class. Originally homeported in Cordova, Alaska, since her commissioning in 2002, she relocated to Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island in 2020 following a yearlong Midlife Maintenance Availability (MMA) at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland. SYCAMORE operates under the First Coast Guard District in Boston, Massachusetts. SYCAMORE primarily tends to aids-to-navigation (ATON) in Martha's Vineyard, the Long Island Sound, Hudson River, and New York City Harbor and entrances in addition to maintenance support of the National Data Buoy Center's offshore weather buoys.
SYCAMORE also performs other duties such as marine environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, domestic icebreaking, search and rescue, and homeland security missions. In 2006, SYCAMORE responded to the capsized MV Cougar Ace and assisted in the salvage efforts. Equipped with oil skimming equipment, SYCAMORE responded the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. In the summer of 2012, SYCAMORE participated in Operation Arctic Shield by conducting oil skimming exercises under arctic conditions as well as exercises with NORTHCOM and the U.S. Navy.
